whiplash:“sudden involuntary forced movement in any direction, and the resultant rebound in the opposite direction” = make something quick as a reaction to something inspirational you have seen.

OK, so I've been doing a lot of handy-crafts lately. My latest projects was thought out, designed and created for the whip-lash contest being held through Whip-up. The prompt for July was bags, and of course since I quickly had a good, pretty idea I put off starting for over a week.

Original plan, peyote stitch bag embellished with stars and fringe. Include a ribbon inside for attaching keys and another ribbon as a wrist band.

Finished project
I'm not as quick with my beadwork as I used to be so after two days realized that I was not going to finish the original plan on time. Not wanting to give up I pulled out my sewing machine, sifted through my fabric stash, and here is what I ended up with.

Quite a bit of a change I know, but all in all I'm pleased with the results, still not sure about the main fabric choice (dark blue corderoy), but the entire piece does seem to pull together OK.

Here is my new night out ultra small, credit card, cash, and keys bag in action.

I love the fringe, I love the sparkly shooting stars, I love the way the original strip of bead-work has been left open at the top, as a little pocket for keys or other small stuff. Oh, yes, and I love the idea that maybe somehow before I die I'll be able to go out with only a tiny bag like this! Click on the picture if you want to read the notes.

Since this projects required skill with beads, fabric, design and redesign I'm entering it into the skills category, although with all the pretty beaded bits and it's decorative more than useful design it would be equally at home in the fancy category. Wish me luck.
